Daniel Radcliffe reportedly pulled off a surprisingly genius strategy in 2007 to mess with paparazzi and reduce the value of candid celebrity photos.

While starring in the play Equus in London, Radcliffe allegedly wore the exact same outfit almost every time he left the theater for months. Because the clothes never changed, tabloids couldn’t easily tell whether photos were taken on different days or during the same outing.

That completely reduced the market value of the pictures.

Paparazzi rely heavily on “new” images to sell stories and create the illusion of constant celebrity activity. By making every photo look identical, Radcliffe essentially turned fresh shots into repetitive duplicates.

What made the move so smart is that he didn’t aggressively fight photographers or create public drama around them. Instead, he quietly removed the incentive altogether.

Rather than trying to stop the game, he made the game pointless.
