Former Jacob Cannon was sentenced to six months in county jail after video showed him slamming a handcuffed woman to the ground during a DUI booking incident in Ormond Beach. The woman reportedly suffered a head injury that required stitches, and the footage quickly spread online, sparking major debate over police use of force.

Some people argued the suspect was intoxicated, verbally aggressive, and refusing commands from officers before the incident happened. Others pointed out that she was already restrained, saying the response crossed the line regardless of her behavior. During sentencing, the judge acknowledged the woman was difficult to deal with but stated that handling hostile or intoxicated individuals is part of law enforcement responsibility.

The case gained even more attention because investigators said the original explanation of events reportedly did not match what was seen on video. Cannon later pleaded no contest, resigned from the department, and was also ordered to serve probation and surrender his law enforcement certification.

Like many viral police cases, the internet remains divided between those who believe the sentence was fair and those who believe it should have been much harsher.
