A malnourished spider monkey found in a Rolls Royce during a DUI traffic stop is now recovering at the Oakland Zoo. 🐒❤️

Estimated to be five to six months old, the monkey arrived with an upper respiratory infection and is receiving critical care.

The zoo shared on Friday that they are hopeful for her recovery and plan to name her in a way that honors her species.

The monkey was confiscated after Madera police stopped the car and arrested the driver for DUI and cannabis possession.

Authorities noted that keeping primates as pets is illegal in California. The Oakland Zoo will provide updates as the young monkey continues to recover.
