A funeral in Thailand took a terrifying turn in November 2025 when temple workers preparing a coffin for cremation suddenly heard something coming from inside.

It was knocking.

The coffin contained a 65-year-old woman whom her family believed had died roughly two days earlier. Her brother had placed her in the coffin and transported her from Phitsanulok province to a Buddhist temple in Nonthaburi, near Bangkok, where he planned to have her cremated.

The woman had reportedly been bedridden for around two years. When her health deteriorated and she became unresponsive, her brother believed she had stopped breathing and assumed she was dead.

But there was one problem.

The temple had not yet begun the cremation because the necessary official death certificate was missing. While staff were explaining the paperwork requirements, they heard a faint sound coming from the coffin.

When they opened it, they were stunned.

The woman was still alive. Temple staff saw her slightly opening her eyes and moving her body, while faint knocking could be heard from the inside of the coffin.

She was immediately taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Reports said doctors found that she was suffering from critically low blood sugar, rather than having actually died. The temple later offered to help cover her medical expenses.

What makes the story especially chilling is how close the situation came to becoming irreversible.
